Marina de Lagos Hosts The Bluewater ALgarve Regatta

The 5th Bluewater Algarve Regatta took place between the 14th and 16th September in the Bay of Lagos. Focusing primarily on cruise boats, the event is organised annually by Bluewater Algarve in partnership with Marina de Lagos.

Four separate races were held, with the participating 24 vessels doing three laps of a triangular course in the Bay of Lagos, in addition to a coastal race between Lagos, Praia da Luz and Alvor. The overall winner of the event was ‘Carnage’, a Cork 1720 vessel skippered by Paul Mallett.

The programme also included additional land-based attractions, with a specifically erected tent for the social events such as the special Marina Club Lagos Resort breakfast and the “Captain’s Table” themed party, including the distribution of prizes, live music and barbecue.

The sporting event appeals not only to competitive sailors, but also to those who prefer a more playful side to sailing activities, juxtaposing the art of sailing with the social side of life, culminating in a truly sporting and social event.

The Bluewater Regatta attracts a multitude of international sailors each year due to the excellent natural conditions provided by the Bay of Lagos for these types of sailing activities, a number that is gradually increasing every time the event is held.
