The Marina de Lagos will once again welcome the fleet of the XXXIV Regata dos Portos dos Descobrimentos, taking place from 11 to 13 July 2025, as part of one of the most prestigious and historic sailing events linking Portugal and Spain.
Now in its 34th edition, this international regatta connects the ports of Palos de la Frontera and Lagos, celebrating the strong maritime, cultural, and historical ties between the two cities, rooted in the Age of Discoveries. The race alternates its route each year, reinforcing cooperation and friendship between both Atlantic communities.
Sailing Tradition and Competition
The regatta features a demanding coastal course of approximately 90 nautical miles, attracting experienced crews and sailing enthusiasts from Portugal, Spain, and other countries. Competitors race in several classes, combining seamanship, navigation skills, and teamwork in challenging Atlantic conditions.
Arrival at Marina de Lagos
The arrival of the fleet in Marina de Lagos marks one of the highlights of the event, offering sailors a safe, modern, and welcoming harbour in the heart of the Algarve. The marina provides an ideal setting for crews and visitors to enjoy Lagos’ nautical facilities, historic centre, and vibrant maritime atmosphere.
A Celebration of the Sea
Organised by the Clube de Vela de Lagos and the Escuela de Vela de Palos de la Frontera, with the support of local authorities, the regatta is more than a sporting competition. It is a celebration of sailing, heritage, and international friendship, complemented by official ceremonies, social events, and prize-giving.
The Regata dos Portos dos Descobrimentos continues to be a landmark event in the summer nautical calendar, reinforcing Lagos’ position as a key destination for sailing and maritime culture.
